UP
: Love and Dreams (Written by Heci Aptrilia)
This
movie is another masterwork from Pixar. The movie was directed by Pete Docter.
The cast of this movie is Charles Muntz (Christopher Plummer), Edward Asner (Carl
Fredricksen), Bob Peterson (Dug, Alph) and Russell (Jordan Nagai). The genre of
this movie is adventure, animated and family. The movie will be shown in 3-D. Up
was premiered on May 13, 2009 at the Cannes Film Festival, and recorded history
as the first animated film to be screened at the event. Up was later released
on May 29, 2009 in the United States and on July 29, 2009 in Indonesia.
The
movie tells the story of the adventures of a grandfather named Mr. Fredricksen
and a boy scout named Russell. Russell, as a member of the Wilderness Explorer,
tried to get the 'Helping the Elders' badge by helping Mr.Fredricksen capture
Spike. While Mr. Fredricksen was feeling lost after his beloved wife passed
away. He decided to fulfill his wife's childhood dreams, build a house next to
Paradise Falls (a very beautiful waterfall in South America). However, instead
of building a house there, Mr. Fredricksen decided to fly his own house there
using thousands of balloons tied to the fireplace. Unexpectedly, it turns out
accidentally Russel brought along. The two of them then traveled in the jungles
of South America to look for Paradise Falls. In the middle of the forest, they
met a rare bird who was very fond of chocolate and by Russell was named Kevin.
They also met Charles Muntz, an experienced adventurer with his air balloon
"The Spirit of Adventure". Charles Muntz was once the hero of the
idol Mr. Fredricksen and his wife when they were both children.
At
the beginning of the film we were presented with a story that was thick with
the nuances of drama films. Love story of Carl Fredricksen (Edward Asner) and
Tomboy girl named Ellie (ElieDocter). Maybe their love story is a bit cliche
because nowadays there are many films that start from childhood friends, fall
in love and eventually get married. But the director was so expert to make
emotional the feelings of the audience. I think they managed to make a story
plot that was different from other movie. This movie will certainly attract the
attention of many people, not only adults but children, because the characters
in this film are described as being cute and funny.
The
96-minute film has a fast tempo story, but it can still be enjoyed and is not
impressed jumping up and down. Even in the first ten minutes, you will feel a
solid groove and no pause at all. The biggest pause we find when we are in the
middle of a movie. Because Up is an animated film, the quality of the voice is
something that must be considered. The voice over can turn on the atmosphere
well. This movie inspired by old
grandfather and also has a storyline can’t be guessed. We will be invited to
laugh, but in the next scene, we are invited to think a little and maybe a
little touched by the sad scene. The animation is also good in my opinion. The moral
message from this movie is like teaching us to care more about our
surroundings, and to always get up even after many failures.Beside the
advantages there are also be other deficiencies such as themes and message
stories that may not be directly understood by young children and need an
explanation from their parents. But this is Disney, an animation studio that
every animation has and puts forward a message that have value and meaningful
for all of us.
The
characters of each cast have different characteristic. Charles
Muntz (Christopher Plummer), a grandfather who is good at making planes, Edward
Asner (Carl Fredricksen) is a stubborn grandfather, Bob Peterson (Dug, Alph)
who plays a cute and good dog voice and Russell (Jordan Nagai), a little boy
scouts who want to collect badges to help parents.
From
this movie we can learn about :
1.
Loyalty of love
Love
guarded by loyalty will be a wonderful 'adventure' even though there are many
shortcomings in each person. Ellie who can't get pregnant anymore, Carl is a
balloon salesman. But they have a wonderful adventure to remember. Ellie even
made an Adventure Book whose contents were the adventures of their lives until
the end of their lives.
2.
Remove sadness by doing positive things
When
Ellie was convicted of not being able to get pregnant, Carl still accompanied
her in sadness and distracted Ellie to get ready for Paradise Fall.
3.
Dreams don’t come by themselves, Must Be Prepare
They
both have strong dreams, to go to Paradise Fall they save little by little,
even though Ellie finally dies shortly before the adventure begins.
4.
Those memories are beautiful, not savings objects.
Carl
desperately took the old house to Paradise Falls with thousands of balloons
because he wanted to invite Ellie. Though what was invited was
"Stuffs" just Ellie's objects, chairs, photos, books. When Carl's
journey was tested by rescuing Russel or the Old House, Carl finally realized
that memories of Ellie would never fade only because he did not have those
things.
